Fine Arts Program

LCS has an extensive and well recognized Fine Arts program.  Beginning in Kindergarten students learn Music and Performance.  In 3rd grade students can participate in choir and in 4th grade students can add band to their opportunities.  In Middle School the programs expand to drama and video.

Weekly music class from K - 5th grade.
In a fun and memorable way Mr. Kell brings music to life.  Your children will come home telling you the funniest stories and singing their hearts out with the exciting songs they learn from Mr. Kell.  A special treat in the 4th grade is that Mr. Kell teaches the students to write their own song.  Learning from accomplished song writer Mr. Kell, students learn how to write the lyrics and melody of a song.  A love for music begins early and lasts a lifetime through this exciting music program.  An entire elementary school musical is performed at Christmas time.  The script is written by a Biola alumni and the music is written by Mr. Kell and Ms. McCann, making the musical unique to our school each year.  This musical is enjoyed by all.

Elementary Choir
Elementary Choir is open to 3
rd – 5th grade students.  Taught after school as an extra curricular activity, Mr. Kell and Ms. McCann introduce students to choral singing, teaching them to sing together as a group and showing them how to use their voices to glorify God.  Students enjoy performing at school events as well as participating in the ACSI Music Festival.

Middle School Choir
When choosing to be part of the Middle School Choir, students enjoy learning and practicing every school day as one of their electives.  Voices are refined and trained as students learn to read music and sing in different parts.  They are also given the opportunity to sing in other languages!  They perform at school events as well as compete in the ACSI Music Festival.

Elementary Band
The Elementary Band program is open to 4th-5th grade students.  There are three levels of band: Beginning, Advanced and Jazz Band.

Beginning Band
is for any student who wants to play an instrument but has no prior music experience.  Students not only learn to play their instruments, but they also learn to read music and count simple rhythms.  It is amazing to see how well each student performs their new instrument in just 3 months at their Christmas performance!

Advanced Band
is open to any student who has been playing an instrument for at least one year.  In this group students learn to play more complicated music and have the opportunity to audition for Honor Band.

Jazz Band
is an audition-only group open to all Advanced Band students.  Here they are introduced to two different jazz styles: rock and swing.  They also are taught to solo on their instruments and get a chance to write their own improvised solos.

With all three levels of band, students enjoy performing at school events as well as competing in the ACSI Music Festival.  Ms. McCann has an amazing way of teaching that brings a love of music and a boost of confidence in each student.

Middle School Band
When choosing to be part of the Middle School band students enjoy learning and practicing every school day as one of their electives.  With one class period each day the students learn two type of music: Concert Band and Jazz Band.  They perform at school events, compete in the ACSI Music Festival and participate in Jazz Band festivals.  Students also have the chance to audition for Honor Bands specific to their grade levels.  In this class students are taught not only to work together as a group, but to develop their gifts outside the classroom.  Students in this group are able to begin playing in outside ministries including church worship teams and nursing home ministries.  The goal of Middle School Band is grow students in their knowledge of their instruments and music reading skills, and to teach them how to use their gifts to glorify God.
